Welcome to The Cotswolds

Because life is better with tea and scones

Imagine a quintessential Cotswolds village nestled between gently rolling hills; with a High Street full of butchers, bakers and candlestick makers, independent and quirky shops, pubs and restaurants serving world-class food and local produce; a Norman church, and curving streets lined with cottages built from the local honey-coloured stone.

It’s a place where bluebells grow wildly in the woods, where it’s not unusual to see children herding a gaggle of geese down a country lane, and it’s a place where you’ll want to settle in and get to know the locals.

A few crumbs from The Cotswolds ...

I'll always remember the moment Wish You Were Here sprang into my mind.

It was December 2015 and we were staying an a cottage just outside of Chalford, sort of halfway between Stroud and Cirencester. Just up the road was Jolly Nice farm shop at Frampton Mansell, and over the rolling hills behind our cottage was Sapperton.

Donkeys were in the barn down the lane and one afternoon we watched children herd geese down there.

Suddenly I wanted that life, a sort of River Cottage in the Cotswolds life. My daughter said it would last until I ran out of wine and had to go out in the rain up a muddy lane to get it. So I wrote about it instead.

While Curlew Cottage will always be that cottage on Westley Farm, the village of Brookford is a mash of all the Cotswolds villages we've visited over the years, but especially Tetbury and Burford.
